Opium launched in 1977 and caused an argument that lasted a decade. It is a spiced oriental of enormous density — clove, cinnamon, myrrh and incense over vanilla and patchouli — and nothing since has quite matched it for sheer nerve.
Modern fragrance is quieter than this. If you grew up around Opium it will smell like a specific person; if you have never worn anything like it, expect a shock. Either way it is a piece of perfume history that is still in production, and it still wears better in a Delhi winter than almost anything designed this decade.

Apply to pulse points rather than to clothing, which can stain. Neck, behind the ears, inner wrist, inner elbow. Warm skin carries a fragrance further, so those spots project best.
Do not rub your wrists together after spraying — it crushes the top notes and shortens the life of the scent.
The difference is how much perfume oil is in the bottle. Eau de Toilette sits lowest and wears lighter, usually three to five hours. Eau de Parfum is stronger and typically lasts six to eight. Extrait de Parfum and Parfum are the most concentrated, and can last a full day on skin.
Higher concentration is not automatically better — a light EDT often suits Indian summers and offices better than a heavy extrait.
